What Road Will You Travel?

One day, while listening to a Christian radio station, I heard a clever statement that caught my attention:

In the far north of Canada, there was a sign posted by a dirt road that had been grooved deeply by the heavy trucks that used the road. The sign said: “Choose which rut you will travel in, for you will be in it for the next 40 km.” (24.9 miles)

Many years ago, this concept effectively summed up my decision; if I chose to blame my husband or bring charges against the Lord for my trials, I’d travel in a rut of bitterness and self-pity. A sure spiral downward!

As Micah 6:8 states, this is what the Lord requires of you, “to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”. (NLT)

I had direction on how to live and what to do! I was to choose to do what was right which was to forgive Jessie for the wrongs inflicted on our family. I was to love mercy, which is to say  I was to love and to diligently practice kindness, compassion And, lastly, to walk humbly with my Lord, setting aside any self-righteousness, trusting that He makes no mistakes.

It was a conscious act of forgiving Jessie that secured my heart before the Lord, but there would still be lingering adjustments to my blindness, damaged hearing and being a single parent. If I speculated my situation for any length of time, it felt like, “three strikes and you’re out”… Was this an insurmountable wall to climb?

Enjoy reading “Glass Walls” as you begin to connect the puzzle pieces.

Do you consider yourself a fair-weather Christian, friend, spouse? May “Glass Walls” inspire you to overcome your own challenges and determine if you are travelling in a rut that leads to nowhere.

Prayer:

The song, “Change My Heart O God”,  sums up my heart cry.

Change my heart, O God! Make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like You.
You are the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me, this is what I pray…

Composed by Eddie  Espinosa, 1982.

Dear Lord, help me each day to walk close to Your heart as I continually draw closer, knowing and understanding your deep love for me through the written Word and by Your Holy Spirit that dwells within me. I thank you that your word is completely true, giving direction and correction for my life. I desire to continually surrender to your guidance, to keep my heart humble, that I may not foolishly challenge Your ways, but follow You, knowing You are a loving and merciful God. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
